Well it's coming to the end of another school year and my troublesome lad has really matured. Me and dave went to an assembly this morning (he's 9 now
would you believe) and he was part of the new group of about 20 kids that are learning to play calarint and flutes, his choice being the clarinet. Well me and
dave were gobsmacked to discover that he is one of the 2 who are excelling in it and he played a duet in front of the whole school, so proud. I also noticed
the other night he can actually read music (watching his eyes as he was reading the sheet music and singing his clarinet notes) I studied music at school and
can read it though failed my final music exam LOL. I was 14 when I first learnt to do it as well. Also he was telling me his math(s) teacher says he is 3 years
academically ahead of his age, I knew he was good but this has made me proud too. And best of all - he's out of 'special needs'---naughty boy
catagory. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I've been waiting for this for 4 years now. Jake has told me that he has realised the school
won't let him get away with being naughty any more (like he knows he's breaking the law is how I interpratated his reasoning behind it.)
On a realistic note, he still can be a nightmare, he took a b****y pen knife to school on Monday, a tiny one we found recently from when dave worked at the cinema and got loads of film related free gifts, this one having Sudden Impact written on it!!!. In all innocence he had no idea how serious this was and I think the school realised this. He took it to do craft he says and I had no idea he had it. At home he's a drama queen and will not listen to reason and won't do as he's told most of the time, though being good at school makes up for this alot.
Having mentioned my plight with him on here so much before, I wanted to share and I hope I'm not tempting fate but I feel he's really turned a corner. There were times when I sobbed because of Jake and thought he would never get the recognition he deserves for his intelligence and would always be critisised for his behaviour. I finally feel he's over this. Phew, kids - you love them to bits and they worry you to death.
